SBANE President Bob Baker to sit on Commission to Study the Feasibility of a Bank Owned by the Commonwealth

  Waltham- Bob Baker, President of the Smaller Business Association of New England, was appointed by Governor Deval Patrick to sit on the Commission to Study the Feasibility of a Bank Owned by the Commonwealth. He will begin his service when the Commission holds their first meeting on Tuesday, May 3, 2011.

SBANE, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems and Assurance, Tax and Cunsulting Office of McGladrey co-hosted "Technology for the 21st Century", bringing together local business owners to help them discover local supplier opportunities.

SBANE Hold's Cutting Edge Series at McGladrey

SBANE’s Most Recent Cutting Edge Series “Technology for the 21st Century” SBANE’s most recent Cutting Edge Series was held Thursday, March 3, 2011 at The Assurance, Tax and Consulting office of McGladrey in Boston. The event, entitled “Technology for the 21st Century” brought together local small business owners to help them discover technology supplier opportunities with SBANE partner, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems. Over the past five years, SBANE has successfully helped introduce small businesses to Raytheon IDS.

SBANE MA Breakfast Series "The Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation"

More than 130 businessmen and women attended the Smaller Business Association of New England's monthly breakfast series on Wednesday, February 16th at the Westin Hotel in Waltham. The Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation (MGCC) was formed and funded by consolidating The Community Development Finance Corporation and the Economic Stabilization Trust. With the merger, businesses now have the opportunity for “One-Stop Shopping” in the form of a centralized resource at the state level that provides working capital, loan guarantees, grants, financial assistance and one-on-one mentoring services. The MGCC mission is to provide advice and capital to Massachusetts small businesses, women and minority owned businesses and local development efforts, through flexible financing programs. It promotes economic development by helping small businesses create and preserve jobs in the Commonwealth. Bob Baker, President of SBANE, was appointed to the Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation’s Board of Directors in September 2010 by Governor Deval Patrick for a five year term.

Call for Nominations -- 25th Anniversary

The Evening of Innovation (EOI) is the highlight of SBANE's yearly program series. The event honors innovators in multiple industries for their contributions in 2010. This year marks our 25th year of EOI, which has honored companies such as Ben & Jerry’s Homemade, Boston Duck Tours, iRobot, Hologic, Kronos, Genzyme, Staples, Tom’s of Maine and Zipcar, and Life is Good and over the years. Former SBANE Chairman Named NSBA Chair

Larry Nannis of Massachusetts Named NSBA Chair Washington, D.C. — Long-time NSBA member and board member Lawrence (Larry) S. Nannis of Framingham, Mass. has officially taken over as Chair of the Board of Trustees for NSBA. A shareholder with the Needham-based CPA firm, Levine, Katz, Nannis + Solomon, PC, Nannis has brought a wealth of expertise in taxation and emerging technology issues to NSBA throughout his tenure.

SBANE and Massachusetts Life Sciences Center Announce 2010 SBMG Awards

Center Awards $1.5 million to foster growth and technology commercialization in the Mass. Life Sciences Supercluster Waltham, MA - The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center's Board of Directors today awarded $1.5 million in Small Business Matching Grants to three life sciences companies in Massachusetts. The companies receiving grants are Boston Biochem Inc. and Tetragenetics Inc., both of Cambridge and Thermedical Inc. of Somerville. Each company will receive $500,000 from the Center to match federal small business grant funding that the companies had previously been awarded. The grants represent the first round of awards issued under the Center's Small Business Matching Grant (SBMG) Program. The three companies that are receiving awards have committed to collectively creating 40 new jobs in the Commonwealth by the end of 2011, including six jobs to be relocated from New York....

SBANE President Bob Baker Recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration

SBANE President Bob Baker to Receive SBA Award SBANE President, Bob Baker, has been selected as the U.S. Small Business Administration's 2010 New England and Massachusetts Financial Services Champion award winner. Bob will be recognized for his advocate and educator efforts within the Commonwealth's small business community, on Tuesday June 8, 2010 at the DCU Center in Worcester at the SBA's annual Massachusetts 2010 Award breakfast ceremony.

 SBANE New England Innovation Awards Annouces Finalists Waltham, MA - This year, SBANE has received over 160 innovative nominee applications for our annual New England Innovation Awards program. SBANE judges have met with each company and reviewed each application, narrowing down 20 companies to advance to the next round of the competition.
