Brian Schmidt of Google gives Keynote Address, 11 companies receive Profitable Connections Awards
WALTHAM - SBANE’s Annual Meeting, held Thursday, October 18th at the Westin Hotel in Waltham, brought out 250 business owners and CEOs to elect the Board of Directors, listen to a keynote address and witness eleven companies receive a “Profitable Connections Award”.
The Board of Directors, made up of a seven member Executive Committee, 13 Partner Directors and 15 Member Directors, convened to elect four new Member Directors to the SBANE board for a two year term. The new board members are: Bob Treiber, President of Boston Engineering Corporation; Brendan King, Principal and CEO of King and Bishop; Julia de la Torre, Executive Director of Primary Source; and, Deidre Sanders, Principal of Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds, PC.
The SBANE Chairman Philip M. Papoojian expressed a sincere thank you to the four outgoing Member Directors: Peter Alcock, President of Beckwood Services; Radha Jalan, President of ElectroChem Inc.; Linda Moraski, President and CEO of PeopleSERVE Inc.; and Jack Salerno, President of Agiltron, Inc.
Brian Schmidt, Director, Americas Sales at Google, Inc. presented the keynote address. His 30 minute speech included jokes about his allegiance to the Philadelphia Eagles and questions from the crowd.
After Schmidt’s keynote, eleven member companies were honored with the Annual “Profitable Connections Award”. These awards represent meaningful results that were achieved by SBANE in collaboration with the award winner in identifying a successful financial or matchmaking solution to a current challenge or opportunity. These companies were: Artaic, LLC, Boston, MA; Beckwood Services, Plaistow, NH,; Comm-Tract Corp, Waltham, MA; Custom Learning Designs, Belmont, MA; LaVallee’s Bakery Distributors, LLC, Waltham, MA; MassVentures, Boston, MA; Metamagnetics, Canton, MA; Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation, Charlestown, MA; Murata Power Solutions, Mansfield, MA; and NELCO, Burlington, MA.
SBANE presented two additional awards this year. The first annual “SBANE Herbert L. Spivack Entrepreneurial Excellence Award”, established to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of SBANE’s top entrepreneurial business leaders was awarded to Leslie Bowen, President of Materials Systems, Inc in Littleton, MA, and Edward Ostrowski, President of GoldStar Advisory Services Inc. in Hingham, MA. The award was named for Herbert Spivack, the founder of Mereco Technologies and long time SBANE member who passed away during the summer of 2012.
Robert Sheridan, President and CEO of SBLI in Woburn, MA, was also honored with the 2012 SBANE Humanitarian Award.
