Chief Advocate of U.S. visits SBANE members

BOSTON, MA.- Chief Counsel for Advocacy for the U.S. Small Business Administration, Dr. Winslow Sargeant and Lynn Bromley. Regional Advocate, met with Ed Ostrowski, Goldstar Advisory Inc., Hingham, Wendy and Marc Badia, Pharmasol Inc, Easton, MA, Christos Lymberopoulos, Pharmasol and Liz Horowitz, Office of Advocacy, last week in
Dr. Sargent was appointed by President Obama on August 19, 2010 and serves as the Chief Advocate for small business with a mission of encouraging policies that support small business growth and development. The office fosters public awareness of small business issues and works in their behalf on rules and regulations that can impact small business owners. The Regulatory Flexibility Act (RFA) requires federal agencies to determine negative impact for small business on all pending legislation and the Advocate is charged to help with this process. Dr. Sargeant noted that he is well aware of challenges of starting and building a small firm and co-founded Aanetcom a “fabless” semi conductor intregrated circuit design company which was acquired by PMC Sierra, a publically traded company. Dr. Sargeant discussed the regulations affecting medical devices and products along with other government agencies rules and talked about the need for open communication concerning issues which might impede product development and commerce. Lynn Bromley discussed her role as Regional Advocate and supports the mission of small business here in New England directly and through organizations, such as SBANE. Bob Baker, SBANE President and Lynn are working together to promote small business access to valuable resources at the federal level and arranged this meeting with the Chief Advocate.
The involvement of the Advocate and his office demonstrated the concern and importance for small business entrepreneurship and culture in the U.S. and noted that we are the backbone of the economy.
