Founded in 1997, based on research started at the MIT Media Lab, E Ink Corporation was recently sold to Prime View International Co., Ltd., for $450 million. How do you take a company, in such a short time, to a multi-million dollar purchase point? What lessons are learned along the way? And, what happens next?
One of the co-founders of E Ink Corporation, a leading supplier of electronic paper display (EPD) technologies, Russ Wilcox, became CEO in 2004 and grew the company rapidly for six years in a row, leading to its recent sale to Prime View International for $450 million. Under his leadership, E Ink invented and commercialized the ePaper display adopted by the Amazon Kindle, SONY Reader, and Barnes and Noble Nook among others. Russ has played senior leadership roles in the company's sales and marketing, intellectual property, strategic alliance, finance and R&D functions.
Wilcox earned an honors degree in Applied Mathematics at Harvard University and an MBA with highest honors from Harvard Business School and holds 17 patents in the display field. Wilcox is a New England Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and a Mass High Tech All-Star and received the Boston History and New England Innovation Awards in 2009.
