Description:
Dr. Gus Manocchia was named Chief Medical Officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) in 2006. Prior to that, he served as Medical Director, a position he assumed in 1999. Dr. Manocchia manages Physician and Provider Relations. He has led efforts to control medical expenses through initiatives such as the Radiology Management Program, which helps prevent the use of medically unnecessary imaging. This program has saved millions since its inception in 2007.
Before joining BCBSRI, Dr. Manocchia was in a private group practice in primary care general internal medicine for 10 years. He is a graduate of Brown University Medical School. Dr. Manocchia is also a graduate of Leadership Rhode Island.
Dr. Manocchia is a volunteer physician for the Rhode Island Free Clinic and is on the Board of Directors of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
